Alex is Chairman and a Managing Partner of First Reserve, an investment firm focused on private equity and real asset strategies across the global energy system. First Reserve has raised over $33 billion of aggregate capital and completed over 750 transactions, including platform investments and add-on acquisitions, on six continents.
Since joining First Reserve in 1999, Alex has become responsible for the overall management of the firm as well as deal origination and sourcing, due diligence and structuring, financing and transaction execution, and ongoing portfolio management.
Prior to First Reserve, Alex worked in the Energy group of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in Houston. He holds two B.S. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (one in Chemical Engineering and one in Finance and Statistics from the Wharton School), and he is currently a Member of the University’s Board of Overseers for the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
